Who is involved in maritime search & rescue?

The following non-exhaustive roles are found in maritime SAR.

Role Description
Boat crew Basic seaman supporting deck operations of the rescue boat
Helm Crewman responsible for boathandling
Maritime radio watchstander/operator Crewman responsible for afloat or shoreside radio communications with rescue boat and other parties
Mechanic Specialized role responsible for maintaining mechanical equipment of the rescue boat
Navigator Specialized role responsible for safe navigation of the rescue boat, operating various navigational equipment
Coxswain Leadership role responsible for the rescue boat, all onboard, and the safe and successful execution of the mission
On-scene Coordinator Manages the search area directly (in-situ)
SAR Mission Coordinator Person who oversees the operation
Marine Communications and Traffic Services Officer Person commmunication alerts and notificaitons
